The Solution

We create solutions with our vision systems. We focus on the solution - the vision system is our tool. We strive to find the right solution - well working, robust, user friendly and with minimum maintenance.

Every vision system application is different since requirements are never the same. Regardless of the big differences in applications we can in the majority of cases solve the application using one of our standard vision systems.

Step 1

Specification

In cooperation with the user, we write up a requirement specification. Often, samples, drawings, and pictures are used as part of the specification. The requirement specification must be sufficiently clear to be understood by both parties. We assign only our most experienced engineers to this task to maintain a focus on relevant issues. Often, a brief conversation is enough to determine the requirements. The written specification is an integral part of VA’s quotations and is typically included at no cost.

Step 2

Analysis

The analysis phase often involves a test session where samples are measured using a vision system. This test helps determine components, illumination, camera position, and inspection methods. During the test, we frequently collect a number of inspection images to include with the functional specification. An experienced project engineer spends several hours on this test, which is done at no cost and, in most cases, sufficient to determine the solution. Each vision system application is unique because requirements vary. Despite the differences, we can usually solve the application using one of our standard vision systems.

Step 3

Technical Solution

With the requirements and technical solution in hand, we specify the function of the solution, including the position of optical components, inspection tools, and practical functions, often referencing inspection images taken directly from the vision system. We compile a comprehensive list of equipment needed to solve the application and provide a fixed price.

Step 4

Efficiency and Communication

We strive to be effective and avoid wasting customers’ time and money on futile studies and irrelevant problems. Drawing from our experience with numerous applications and discussions with users and machine designers, we use our knowledge and experience to quickly and effectively reach a practical solution. We maintain a ‘no-nonsense’ attitude toward our own solutions, offering straightforward and precise information. We communicate openly with our customers without technical jargon. If we believe a different solution is necessary, we express it. We aim to provide the right solution, whether it’s a 99% or 100% fit or if a simpler alternative, like a photocell, is more suitable.

Step 5

Demonstration

We recommend that customers insist on a demonstration of the vision system and the proposed solution using their own products, if possible. Vision systems vary significantly in function and use, and this becomes evident when seen in action. Seeing is believing.

Step 6

Interface and Integration

The vision system must interface with the machine, and the positions and integration of components onto the machine must be determined. We provide the necessary information for machine designers and PLC programmers to integrate our system. With application-specific documents, we also supply standard guidelines and component documentation to facilitate immediate design work. We ensure that the solution is robust and can be integrated safely without imposing unreasonable demands on machine tolerances or product transportation.

Step 7

User Documentation

Standard user documentation includes a system manual, parts list, schematics, and maintenance instructions. Both the system manual and on-screen menus are available in several languages. For pharmaceutical customers, we offer additional documentation, such as IQ/OQ test procedures and similar.

Step 8

Installation and Commissioning

Normally, Vision Automation participates in the installation, testing, and commissioning of the vision system. Thanks to good preparation by both our team and our systems, we often have exceptionally short installation times. A typical installation, including operator and technician training, can be completed in approximately two days.

Step 8

Adaptation and Expansion

As new products or changed specifications for existing products emerge, they may place new demands on the vision system. Our systems are built as ‘toolboxes,’ making it possible to manage changed conditions through minor adjustments in system settings. Alternatively, we can slightly modify the system by adding an extra camera or installing a newer version of the system software. We continuously expand the system ‘toolboxes’ with new tools whenever new demands arise.
